]]>Memorial Service for Fran Shanahanhttp://www.christreformed.org/church-events-announcements/2008/9/11/memorial-service-for-fran-shanahan.htmlAdministrator2008-09-11T16:56:27Z2008-09-11T16:56:27Z A memorial service for elder Fran Shanahan will be held at Christ Reformed Church on Thursday, September 18, @ 11:00 AM.  A reception will follow.

Fran received the crown of life on Sunday, September 7, @ 6:00 PM.  Our friend and brother died of organ failure after undergoing major surgery to deal with the return of the cancer he had fought so long and so bravely.   He was buried at Pacific View Cemetery in a private service on Wednesday, September 10.

We ask you to remember the Shanahan family in your prayers, as Mimi mourns the loss of her husband, and their children, Stuart, Patrick, Audry, and John, mourn the loss of their father.

But the Shanahans grieve with hope!   And so do those who knew and loved Fran.  As Paul reminds us in 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18:

"But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope.  For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep.  For this we declare to you by a word from the Lord,  that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep.  For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.  Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord.  Therefore encourage one another with these words."

]]>Cadet's Camping Triphttp://www.christreformed.org/church-events-announcements/2008/8/5/cadets-camping-trip.htmlAdministrator2008-08-05T17:25:15Z2008-08-05T17:25:15ZThe Cadets have just returned from a wonderful weekend of fellowship and fun at Caspers Wilderness Park in South Orange County. The days were filled with good food, hikes, games, water fights, and a tour of the nature center. The nights were filled with more good food, a lesson from a local astronomer and fireside chats.

We especially thank Rick Wickstrom whose planning and attention to detail went above and beyond the call of duty and made for a flawless trip. We give thanks to Pastor Andrew for the study and preparation that lead to the excellent outdoor worship service on Sunday morning. We thank all the men who came to support our church, and we thank the LORD for blessing our time together.

Please remember to keep our youth in your prayers, praying for the continued success of our Sunday schools and youth programs.

Marcelo Souza to be our new Associate Pastor.   The financial package was also unanimously approved.

Marcelo, his wife Heather, and son Sean, will be welcomed by the congregation  at a reception on Sunday, October 1, immediately after our worship service.  Please join us for this wonderful occasion!

Over 50 people made it up to Mammoth this year, to camp, condo, fish, hike, and enjoy the beauty of the wilderness.

On Wednesday night, 42 people showed up around the campfire!

We had a blast!  We had great fellowship, good food, and made lots of new friends.

We'll have to do this again next year!
