The Rev. Andrew Compton, Assistant Pastor

Rev. Andrew Compton is the assistant pastor of Christ Reformed Church where he serves part-time while engaged in full-time graduate work.

After graduating from Dordt College (Sioux Center, IA), Andrew taught high school band and orchestra in southern California.  A budding interest in studying the Bible and Reformed theology, in addition to a growing desire to preach the gospel, drew him to enroll at Westminster Seminary in California (Escondido) where he earned his Masters of Divinity (M.Div) in 2007.

While studying at Westminster, Andrew became very interested in Old Testament studies, thanks to several gifted professors in the discipline, and prepared to become a scholar/pastor who could make a contribution not only to his congregation, but to Old Testament scholarship more generally.  Sensing that his Confessional Reformed tradition could utilize a critical engagement with secular academic study of the Old Testament, he spent a year at the Claremont Graduate University (Claremont, CA) before transferring to the University of California, Los Angles where he is currently a Ph.D. student.  He has had the privilege of learning from top notch scholars at each institution and has benefited greatly from study in these common grace spheres.

In addition to biblical, archaeological and linguistic studies related to the Old Testament, Andrew is interested in Hermeneutics, Biblical Theology (in both the traditions of Geerhardus Vos and of Brevard Childs), and the Doctrine of Scripture.  Other theological interests include Protestant Scholasticism, Presuppositional Apologetics, Biblical Counseling and following the New Perspectives on Paul.

Though he spends less time outdoors than he would like, he is also interested in biking (mountain and road), running, hiking, fishing, hunting and shotgunning. (Skeet is his favorite shotgun sport!)  He enjoys listening to classical music (primarily the symphonic works of Mahler and Strauss) and talk radio (KFI AM 640).  He also likes watching the Simpsons, making home-brewed beer with his dad, and watching USC Trojan Football.  (Lately he's started to become a San Diego Chargers fan too!)  His future plans include getting back into snow-skiing and golf when he has some spare time!

Andrew is married to Pamela, the organist at Christ Reformed Church, and together they have a one-year-old daughter.

Pamela Compton, Church Organist

Pamela has a B.A. in Music Education from Dordt College (Sioux Center, IA) and an M.M. in Sacred Music from the University of Southern California.  She is nearing completion of a D.M.A in Choral Music at the University of Southern California.  Pamela has been a church organist for 15 years, the last 6 of which have been at Christ Reformed Church.

Pamela's primary professional interest is in sacred music, particularly the Psalmody, hymnody, and liturgy of the Reformed tradition.  She has a passion for accompanying congregational singing and enjoys making each hymn's distinct personality come alive by means of creative harmonizations and registrations.  The most enjoyable and rewarding part of her job is hearing God's covenant people sing every week.

Music Education is also an area of great interest to Pamela.  She taught K-5 general music for five years at Christian schools in Iowa and California.  Currently she teaches piano and organ privately.

Pamela is a member of the American Guild of Organists and the American Choral Directors Association.

Outside of music, Pamela enjoys watching the NBA, cooking and baking, organizing, and couponing, but her favorite thing to do is spend time at home with her husband Andrew and their daughter.
