Ordination Service for Yi Wang

Mr. Yi Wang, our pastoral intern to the Chinese Ministry, will be ordained to the office of Minister of Word and Sacrament.  This ordination will take place during our Sunday morning worship service.  Per the URCNA church order this is to be a public ordination before the congregation “with appropriate instructions, admonitions, prayers and subscription to the Three Forms of Unity by signing the Form of Subscription, followed with the laying on of hands by the ministers who are present and by the elders of the congregation, with the use of the appropriate liturgical forms.”  We are looking forward to this wonderful milestone in our brother Yi Wang’s life as well as the life of our church.

Congregational Meeting

The Council of Christ Reformed Church unanimously voted to extend a pastoral call to Mr. Yi Wang, to serve as associate minister of Word and Sacrament with the specific purpose of laboring as a Church Planter-Pastor. The decision of the council to call and ordain Mr. Yi Wang must be ratified by a vote of the congregation. The council also unanimously approved funds from the earnings on our investments to financially assist this new church plant, which also requires ratification by a congregational vote.

Yi Wang was born in China and by God’s providence came to Christ while an architectural student in Italy. When he was introduced to Reformed worship and teaching in Milan Italy, he was urged to study for the ministry at Westminster Seminary California (WSC) where he graduated in May 2018.

Christ Reformed Church took Yi Wang on as a pastoral intern after graduating from WSC to teach our adult Sunday School class.  He passed his Candidacy for the Ministry examination at Classis Southwest in March 2019.  As the church’s pastoral intern, Yi conducted Mandarin-speaking Bible studies in his home in Rowland Heights on Saturday evenings. And he organized several conferences on distinctive Reformed doctrines in Orange County.  He and his co-laborer, Luke Lu, have made good use of the internet to reach out to Mandarin-speaking believers in the U.S. as well as other countries and have translated and published several Reformed books in Mandarin.

Since its inception over a year ago, the Bible study group outgrew Yi’s living room and so in July of 2019, Christ Reformed Church invited the Bible study group to meet in our rented facilities in Anaheim on Sunday mornings.  Yi has been conducting Mandarin-speaking worship services concurrently with our own English-speaking worship services at Christ Reformed Church without administering the Sacraments of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper.  Yi has also been instructing the group on the Heidelberg Catechism as well as the requirements for membership at Christ Reformed Church.

Please pray for this fledgling ministry and please plan on attending the congregational meeting to ratify the Council’s decision to call Yi Wang as a church planter-pastor.

Conference on the Synod of Dort

Conference on the Synod of Dort

The Covenant Chinese Reformed is a newly established Mandarin-speaking Christian ministry to Chinese people living in the greater Los Angeles area.  Our desire is to be a place of refuge for many and to nourish them in the truths of the grace of God through Jesus Christ to the glory of God, the Father.  We are pleased to announce a Reformation Conference in both English and Mandarin on the Synod of Dort, November 2, 2019.

Many people may have heard of the Five Points of Calvinism through the five-letter acronym “TULIP”. But few know about the Canons of Dort. The Canons of Dort is probably the least known Reformed confessional document. The Canons, however, are more than just five letters. They clarify the doctrine of grace in a pastoral tone and serve as a model of the stewardship of God’s grace.

On May 29, 1619, the Great International Synod of Dort, which lasted more than six months, came to the end.  This year -2019- is the 400th anniversary of the conclusion of the Synod of Dort and the completion of the Canons of Dort. Why did the Synod convene in the first place? Why the Canons? What is the story around the Remonstrant controversy? After 400 years, what is the practical significance of this document to the evangelical churches today? These are some of the questions we will discuss in this Reformation Conference.
