Mexicali Reformed Church Plant
On November 2, 2025, Christ Reformed Church ratified a letter of call to Jared Pine to be a church-planter/pastor in Mexicali, Baja California. Christ Reformed has called and sent Jared with his family of five to Mexicali to begin the work of planting a URCNA church in this city on the U.S.-Mexico border.
As church planter, Jared is organizing a Bible study in his home that will go through the Apostle Paul’s letter to the Philippians. The group will meet weekly on Wednesday nights at 7 p.m., beginning on November 26, 2025, the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.
That is a fitting day for the start of the Bible study since it was on a Wednesday before Thanksgiving that Jared first traveled to Mexicali in a van full of nursing students on a medical brigade through Mexico Outreach. That trip served as Jared’s motivation to learn Spanish and planted seeds that God eventually used to call him to ministry in Mexicali.
In 2018, Jared married Miriam, who was born and raised in Mexicali. They began attending Christ Reformed later that year and all three of their children (Cate, Nole, and Mabel) have been baptized at Christ Reformed. In 2022, Jared quit his work in college athletics to attend Westminster Seminary California full-time with the approval of Consistory with the goal of preparing for pastoral ministry in a Spanish-speaking context.
Jared completed seminary in May 2025 and sustained his candidacy exam before Classis Southwest U.S. to become eligible for a call in September 2025. Then in January 2026, Lord willing, Jared will be ordained to the Ministry of Word and Sacrament at Christ Reformed Church and sign the form of subscription.
The goal of the mission work is to establish an outpost for the gospel of Jesus Christ, announcing his substitutionary death, the just for the unjust, so that all who believe in him will receive the forgiveness of their sins and eternal life. Specifically, we desire to see a Reformed church in Mexicali that joyfully adheres to the Three Forms of Unity as a faithful summary of Scripture and is dedicated to the ministry of Word and Sacrament for the edification of Christ’s Church among Spanish speakers in Mexicali and the surrounding areas.
Mexicali is the capital of Baja California with over a million residents. In California there are five ports of entry between the United States and Mexico and two of the largest ones are located at the border between Mexicali and Calexico. Religiously, the region is dominated by secularism, Roman Catholicism, Pentecostalism, and anti-trinitarian groups (Mormons, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Oneness Pentecostals, and Luz del Mundo).
Currently, there are no particularized confessionally Reformed churches in all of Mexicali. Would you join us in praying that God would bless this church planting effort so that a new confessionally Reformed church would be established in Mexicali for God’s glory and the growth of his church.
